| Obituary: Johnnie Mae Sample, 82, of 301 Mineral Springs Road, Saluda, SC, widow of Carl W. Sample, died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Hospice House, Greenwood, SC.
Born in Greenwood, SC on July 7, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John S. and Mae Crouch Griffith.
During her life, she called many places home. Beginning in South Carolina, she then moved to Florida, California, England, Arizona, Texas and Virginia, returning to Saluda, SC two years ago. In addition to raising her family, she had various jobs throughout her life, however, her passion was history. She worked as an historical tour guide for 25+ years at Hugh Mercers Apothecary Shop and the Mary Washington House in Fredericksburg, VA.
She spent the past several years making improvements to the house and property she was raised on in Saluda. Friends and family were always welcomed. She so enjoyed the Tuesday afternoon family gatherings here.
Surviving are four children, Carol Anne Selby, John Albert Sample, Charles Wayne Sample and Carl Michael Sample; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
