William "Billy" Maxwell Coursey, 94, resident of NHC Greenwood, formerly of 802 Highway 221 S., widower of Hazel Keenan Coursey passed away Friday, October 22, 2021 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Elzie Lee Coursey and Mary Etta Burnett Coursey. He retired from Mathews Mill, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a US Navy veteran, where he served in World War II. Billy was a lifelong member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for over twenty five years as well as many other areas of the church until his health declined.
Surviving is his son, Robert "Bo" Wilson (Lynn); sister, Dorothy "Dot" Knight, both of Greenwood; grandchildren, Cynthia Baker (Larry), Steve Rushton (Joette), Lee Wilson (Susan), and Michael Wheless; great grandchildren, Trisha Urban, Hazel Rushton, Twyla Urban Phillips (Jay), Tessa Urban (Garrett Kendall), and Krystal Parker; seven great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Hazel, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye Wilson Rushton; sister, Margie C. Newsome; and brother, James Coursey.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Bryant Sims officiating. Burial will follow at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Polatty, C Brown, Carroll Ethridge, Donny Gaines, Bobby Parker, Tony Robinson.
Honorary escort will be Henry Teague, Skeeter Thompson, James Broome, and Bill Maffett.
