Jack Michael Lafayette Wheless, 91, of 141 Cherokee Drive, husband of Nita Dillashaw Wheless, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at his home.
Born in Wilkes County, GA, he was a son of the late Reuben David and Berda Mae Hilley Wheless. Jack was a US Air Force veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and retired from Monsanto and South Main Street Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Star Fort Golf Club and was a member of the Greenwood Radio Club, American Legion Post 20 and South Main Street Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife of the home; his daughter, Leesa W. Inabinet (Dennis) of Cross Hill; his son, John "Sparkie" Wheless (Cheryl) of Greenwood; a brother, Sam Wheless (Lois) of Bradley; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ouida Peeler and Doris Parkman and a brother, Ken Wheless.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday at South Main Street Baptist Church with Dr. Toby Frost and the Rev. Ryan Eklund officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gene Thompson, Paul Burdette, Sam Davis, Harry Minyard, Neal Ciurro, Jim Murphy, Ronnie Peeler and Barry Wheless.
Honorary escort will be members of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class of South Main Street Baptist Church along with Coleman Williamson, Cecil and Shirley Lowe, Pat Pressley and Billy Wilson.
The family will receive friends in The Connecting Place at South Main Street Baptist Church on Friday from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
