Dan Warner

Daniel Kinard Warner, 85, of 1217 Hwy 221 South, husband of Viola Fitzpatrick Warner, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at his home. Born on January 27, 1930 in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Virgil Lee Warner Sr. and Katie Long Warner. Dan was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church. Since he began farming in 1947, Dan had been deeply involved with Clemson University, the South Carolina 4H Club, Clemson Bull Test Station and Clemson Angus Futurity which was dedicated to him and Viola in 2007. He served on the boards of: South Carolina Angus Association, as well as American Angus Association, South Carolina Farm Bureau, South Carolina Soil Conversation, Farm Service Agency, National Cattlemans Association, as well as, the South Carolina Cattleman Association, Greenwood Beef Producers and The Grange. Mr. Warner was an elected officer in most of these associations. He also worked as the deputy weigh master at the Greenwood, Leesville, Laurens and Anderson Stockyards until his retirement last year. Dan enjoyed farming alongside his son, Danny and was known by everyone in the beef cattle business for his expert knowledge of livestock. He was a natural "cattleman " and always tried to learn more by attending livestock sales to keep informed of new market trends and by using that knowledge on his own farm. He knew how to pick and raise award-winning show cows, as many of his stock have been among the best in the country. Dan attended livestock shows and was a fierce competitor with other cattlemen from around the country. He enjoyed placement of the lineup and then explaining why he thought the judge should take another look. He always looked forward to attending the annual North American International Livestock Expo (NAILE) in Louisville, Kentucky having attended thirty-seven expos out of the forty-two years since its conception. He was twice married, first to the late Claire Lyon Warner. Mr. Warner was preceded in death by brothers Virgil Lee Jr., Carl, and Erwin Warner; a sister, Mary Ida Woodham; and a stepson, Brent Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his wife Viola, of the home; his sons: Danny (Grace), Max (Sandy) and Tim (Jan) Warner; grandchildren Kristen (Cameron) Wideman, Karrie, Josh and Ethan Warner; a great granddaughter, Cassidy Wideman; stepchildren: Bryan Fitzpatrick (Amy), Rachel Faulkner (Randy), and Rebeccca Fitzpatrick-Yancey (Mike); and nine step grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to special family and friends for their support, prayers and patience during the last few months. Especially to the Hospice Care of South Carolina and a special thanks goes to Mr. George Warner and Mr. Danny Polatty for all their help on the farm.
