Lance Vanadore

Lance Noel Anderson, 61, of Greenwood, joined his Heavenly Father Thursday, May 24, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born Sept. 5, 1950, in Green Bay, Wis., Lance was a beloved husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Jaye Anderson; two sons, Matthew Lee Anderson and Samuel Louis Anderson, of the home; one daughter, Shontelle (David) Birdsell of Dayton, OH; brothers Leif (Deb) Anderson of Omaha, Neb., and Kirk (Julie) Anderson, of Summerville, S.C.; aunts, uncle and cousins in Summerville; and extended family in Wisconsin. He was predeceased by his parents, Eric Eugene and Doris Jean Anderson. Lances life took him to many places and into many fields, both in terms of vocation and avocation. He lived in Summerville, attended high school in Okinawa, Japan, joined the Army and worked as an air traffic controller in Alaska. Following his military career, Lance's career path melded with his hobbies, especially his love of the arts and publishing. He was a photographer, advertising artist, magazine editor, high school art teacher, coordinator and instructor of commercial art at Piedmont Technical College, caricature artist, painter, biographer, graphics artist, publisher of comic and collectors' books and more. Most recently, Lance served as the media specialist for the Index-Journal, managing the newspaper's website, developing its Facebook page and producing many web and print ads. Additionally, he was a lead designer of the newspaper's 2011 award-winning football section, which centered on a comic book theme. His career included serving as the package artist and designer for many of the Kenner line of toys. His artwork can be found in works produced for the South Carolina Waterfowl Association, as well as numerous pieces that have been exhibited in such places as the Greenwood Arts Center exhibition gallery. Lance was also an avid reader and movie aficionado. In particular, he was a lifelong student of history. He was also an avid collector, amassing a collection of comic books, movies, comic strip artists' works, historical artifacts and art. He was a member of the Greenwood Artist Guild. He attended The Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal, Greenwood. '
