Leathea Vanadore

Leathea Evelyn Vanadore, resident of the Manhattan Borough of New York City, passed away on March 2, 2024, at her home. Born January 23, 1939, in Ware Shoals, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Margaret Hiott and Paul Vanadore. Surviving is her brother, Benjamin (Gloria) Vanadore; five nieces and nephews, Bryan (Cheryl) Vanadore, Cathie LaDoux, Carrie (Frank) Hanna, Robert (Stacey) Vanadore, and Benjamin (Ani) Vanadore; eleven great-grand nieces and nephews, Adger Vanadore, Keri (Dylan) Bottorff, Richel (Garitson) Glass, Brad Hanna, Micah Vanadore, Eve Vanadore, Carly Vanadore, Liam Vanadore, Arbion Sakaj, Ana Vanadore, and Henry Vanadore. There is one great-great-grand niece, Krislynn Grace Bottorff. She was predeceased by five siblings; Frances (Wallace) Smith, Buddy (June) Vanadore, Genie (James) Traynham, Annie Lee Vanadore, and Kerry Vanadore. Leathea graduated from Ware Shoals High School in 1957, Wintrop College in 1961, and achieved an additional 30 plus hours studying courses throughout her teaching career in New York City after receiving a Master's Degree of Education. Leathea was a faithful member of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in New York. She loved visiting Trinity Episcopal Church in Abbeville, SC on her visits to see her brother Ben and other family members. She traveled to all seven continents during her life and loved the QEII shipliner sailing on it several times including its last voyage. Leathea had many stories that she eagerly shared. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in her beloved St. Bart's Episcopal Church and with others in local productions in off-Broadway plays. Enthusiastic about enrolling in acting classes, she knew no fear of being on stage. Leathea was a supporter of the Metropolitan Opera House and attended performances as often as she could. She also went to many Broadway plays and art displays at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She had strong Democratic opinions and made sure her stance was known in political discussions. Leathea was full of life and loved all the creativity and beauty the world had to offer. At the end of her life, when it was difficult to go out, she told her brother Ben that she had done everything she wanted to do. Leathea's family appreciates all the help and comfort that her friends and associates have offered during this difficult time. A family graveside service will be held at Turkey Creek Cemetary in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Restoration Project, P.
