Mama Ann Henderson

Annie M. Henderson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 22, 2011, while a patient at Hospice House. She was born on October 27, 1925, in Ninety Six to Henry and Bessie Hallback. She was the widow of Raymond Henderson after 50 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife and the mother of two daughters, Vicky Tucker, who preceded her in death in 2007, and Elaine Poss. Annie was lovingly known by all as �Mama Ann�. She acquired this name at the birth of her first grandchild, Tony (Trish) Tucker �Anthony�. She later became the proud grandmother to three more grandchildren, Tammy West �Angel Baby�, Bryan (Sharon) Calliham �Little Buddy�, Cindy (Tim) Hawks �Sudie� and an �adopted� granddaughter, Carol Tucker. Mama Ann had pet names for her grandchildren that she never stopped using. Mama Ann later became the great grandmother to Derek (Lindsay) Tucker, Nathan Drake, Laci Tucker, Matthew (Brittney) Chastine, Deven Chastine, Brady Calliham, Jessica Hawks and Carson Hawks. She doted on all her children and grandchildren, but the great grandchildren were the apple of her eye. By the time they came along, she had retired from Greenwood Mills after 47 years of service, and had the time and opportunity to spend all her time spoiling them. She then became a great great grandmother to Chase Tucker, Evan Tucker, Renee McClain, Brynlee Drake, Kylee Manley and Madi Manley. About seven years ago, �Charli� came to live with Mama Ann at the age of 6 weeks and in the form of a Boston Terrier. She and Charli were inseparable until she had to go to the Emerald Gardens Alzheimer�s Unit, where she was loved by the entire staff. Mama Ann raised her children with much love and devotion. She instilled in her children and grands the values, compassion and the ability to show unconditional love. She loved people and found the good in everyone. The love of children was Mama Ann�s passion and she was always showing them God�s love through her love. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where she was a member of the Alice Stuart Sunday School Class. She tended the nursery for over 40 years. On her 80th birthday, she was honored by her family and church family with a surprise birthday celebration at the church. In attendance were many of the children she had tended to in the nursery over the years, the oldest being 36 and the youngest being six months. Shortly after this, she had to give up the nursery due to health problems, but she never forgot even one of the children that passed through her life. This tribute to Mama Ann was written by her family to honor and celebrate her life and death. There will never be another �Mama Ann� in our lives. She was the most precious, special person and she was �ours�.
