Anne Parrott

March 24, 1944 - April 27, 2022

The Reverend Anne Richardson Parrott, 78, of Simpsonville, SC, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home at 144 Amherst Drive, Greenwood, SC, on Tuesday, April 27, 2022, surrounded by her family after an extended illness. She was the daughter of Joseph R. Richardson and Frances Salley Richardson of Greenwood, SC. She graduated from Hartsville High School and attended Winthrop College, graduating with a degree in French in 1966. Anne worked as a social worker at South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) in Greenville, SC, from 1982 until 1995, working in investigations and foster care. When she left DSS, she spent a few years volunteering in homeless ministry through Triune Methodist Church in Greenville before answering God’s call to fulfill full-time ministry. She attended seminary at Erskine and was ordained by the Methodist Church in 2008. She served as the pastor of St. John’s UMC and Sardis UMC in Blacksburg during her first assignment and then at Kings Mountain Chapel UMC in York, SC, and St. Paul’s UMC in Clover, SC, before retiring in 2013. Anne loved to work in her garden and share her prolific harvest with friends and neighbors. She always saw the best in everyone, sought opportunities to help others, and was grateful when God gave her the chance to do so. She loved thrift shopping and the joy of getting a good bargain. Her faithful rat terrier Beau loved to walk or take car rides with her, and he was always game for a quick trip through the Hardee’s drive-through to get hamburgers on their way home. She is survived by her brother Richard Richardson of Columbia, her two children, Rob Parrott and Salley Hyatt Cathcart (Richard), and four grandchildren, Alexa, Sam, George, and Anna, all of whom knew her lovingly as their Gaga. Should friends decide to do so, memorials for a special ministry in Anne’s honor may be sent to The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 700 South Main Street, Greenwood, SC 29646. A funeral service celebrating her life and interment service in the church’s columbarium will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022, at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow.
