Obituary

Ada Summers Stillwell, 95, went home to heaven Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Wesley Commons.

Born in Decatur, GA., on November 17, 1921, she was a beloved daughter of the late Rev. Welborne Summers and Mrs. Donna Heard Summers. She was also welcomed in heaven by her adoring husband of 73 years, Mr. Samuel Edward "Ed" Stillwell; her sisters, Mrs. Donna Mae Montgomery and Mrs. Mary Heard Coskrey; and her son-in-law, Mr. Goode Max Gulledge.

Ada graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee where she sang in the choir. She served her Lord faithfully as a devoted wife, loving mother, beaming grandmother, honored great grandmother, cherished friend, respected teacher, talented artist, joyful musician, and natural athlete. She enjoyed china painting, singing, playing the piano, needlework, cooking for her family, teaching, traveling, gardening, playing and watching various sports, reading, and was always quick to laugh and ready for an adventure. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in North Augusta for over 50 years, and of St. Mark United Methodist Church after she and her husband retired to Greenwood. She also loved to share fond memories of the Methodist churches her parents served and towns in which she grew up.

Surviving are her son, The Rev. Dr. Robert E. "Bob" Stillwell (Marian) of Seneca; her daughter, Donna "Dee" Stillwell Gulledge of West Columbia; her grandsons, John E. Stillwell of Greenville, P. Adam Stillwell (Christine) of Simpsonville, and Joseph W. Stillwell (Chelsea) of Columbia; her granddaughter. Annah G. Hiers (Michael) of Lugoff; four great grandchildren, Ada, Samuel, Jacob, and Mallie; and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church, 639 Georgia Avenue, North Augusta, SC with the Rev. Jim Dennis, Rev. John Younginer, and Rev. Barrett Alewine as celebrants. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Wesley Commons for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Commons Foundation, 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the charity of one's choice.
