Alvin "Al" Maxie Herndon, Jr., 90, of Greenwood, widower of Barbara Crout Herndon, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024.

Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Alvin Herndon and Edna Gillespie Herndon Campbell. Al was retired owner of Herndon's Portable Buildings Place and was the former owner of The Furniture House. He was a member of Grace Community Church. Alvin was a true sports fanatic, with a special place in his heart for the South Carolina Gamecocks. An avid golfer, he spent many hours on the course, enjoying the outdoors and the camaraderie of his friends.

Surviving are his daughters, Maxine Brown (Tommy) and Wanda Wammock (Roy); grandchildren, Amy Dickey (Cameron), April Richey (Dwayne), Alana Byrd (Will), Brandon Ray (Donna), and Lance Ray (Christina); eleven great grandchildren; and let's not forget about Shaddy, his cherished cat, who brought so much joy to his life.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
