Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Allen H. Patterson, age 83, beloved husband of Delona Osborne Patterson, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 10, 1942 in Greenville, he was a son of the late John Wesley Patterson and Eva Luther Patterson. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service he was employed at GMAC for 36 years until his retirement.

A man of quiet strength and deep conviction, Allen left a lasting impact through his wisdom, gentle spirit, and quick sense of humor. For 62 wonderful years, he shared a life of devotion with his wife, building a home where family always came first. Allen was a steadfast provider and a trusted confidant whose life was guided by faith, hard work, and uncompromising integrity.

Allen’s family was the heart of his world. He was never happier than when sharing a good story, offering support to someone in need, or proudly celebrating every milestone achieved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An avid sports fan, he loved spending afternoons on the golf course and never missed a chance to pull for his South Carolina Gamecocks on autumn Saturdays. His steady presence, warm laugh, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years; his three loving sons, Tracy Allen Patterson (Laura), John Eric Patterson, and Tyler James Patterson; one brother, Billy Joe Patterson; six grandchildren, Becky Holland (Cory), Shelby Gardner (Doug), Wes Patterson (Summer), Evan Patterson (Angela), Kayla Patterson (Graham Harrison), and Sydney Patterson; and three great-grandchildren, Lily Kate Holland, Mason Patterson, and Tinsley Patterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Dwayne Patterson; five sisters, Azilee Mease, Shirley Wilkinson, Peral Patterson, Willie Mae Patterson, and Nellie Patteron; and two brothers, Jerry Patterson and George W. Patterson.

The family expresses much appreciation to the ICU staff and the 7th floor nursing staff at Self Regional Medical Center, along with the Greenwood Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. They are all passionate, patient caregivers.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 1, 2026 at North Side Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating.

The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.

Though Allen is no longer with us in body, his joy and his spirit endures in the laughter of family and friends. And the roar of a Saturday crowd at Williams-Brice stadium. “Go Gamecocks!”

"A life well lived leaves behind a legacy of love, and his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him."
