Walter Alvin Sprouse, 89, of Cross Hill, beloved husband of 67 years to Delores Lance Sprouse, died Friday, June 7, 2019 at Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Sprouse and Lois Thomas Sprouse. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War with the Wolf Hounds of Company K. Alvin was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal recipient and was a 33rd degree Mason. Previously Alvin was a volunteer with the Hobbyville Fire Department and the owner of Big Country Restaurant, both in Woodruff. He was a member of Cross Hill First Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his children, Kathie Hunter (Hal) of Hendersonville, NC, Debby Sanford (Barry) of Orangeburg and Joel Sprouse, USN (Katie) of Enoree; two sisters, Marie Vice of Roebuck and Vera Lackey of Augusta; grandchildren: Shane Sanford (Meg), Melony Sanford, Michael Sprouse, Ben Rieger (Ashley) Lance Sprouse; great grandchildren: Seito Sanford, Shunto Sanford, Taylor Sprouse and Pierson Rieger; and special caregivers, Sharlene Cunningham, Susan McLaughlin, Julia McLaughlin, Stephanie Midyette and Tammy Patrick.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Monday at Cross Hill First Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Marshall officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Reiger, Shane Sanford, Michael Sprouse, Lance Sprouse, Tayler Sprouse and Louie Sprouse.
The body is at Harley Funeral Home and will be placed in the church on Monday at 12:00 pm.
The family will receive friends following the committal in the church.
