Alvis Wood "Nut " Werts, 79, of 5315 Ninety Six Highway, husband of Dorothy Horne Werts died Friday, December 18, 2009 at Hospice House. Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Eugene R. "Gene " and Annie Lee Berry Werts. Mr. Werts was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Greenwood Mills, Ninety Six Manufacturing. For many years he served as part of the "Chain Crew " for Ninety Six High School. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of the home; four sons, Allan (Lee Ann) Werts, Bruce (Judy) Werts, Ricky (Nancy) Werts and Doug (Shelia) Werts, all of Ninety Six; ten grandchildren, Gloria W. Timmerman, Bryan Werts, Bridgette Still, Nicholas Werts, Andrew Werts, Barbee Ruth Werts, Brent Werts, Jason Werts, Jeffery Werts and Julie Gardner; seven great grandchildren, Ashley Werts, Daniel Timmerman, Braxton Werts, Lawson Still, Trinity Pennington, Jayden Pennington and Addison Werts; and a step grandson, Josh Gardner.
