Obituary

Anita Hilliard Adams 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Friday May 1, 2015 after an extended illness. Born in Edgefield County in 1930, she was a daughter of the late James Fredrick Hilliard and Berta Turner Hilliard. She was married for 56 years to the late Charles L "Doc " Adams. Mrs. Adams worked for 35 years with her husband in their Greenwood business, Adams Used Cars, but she was always happiest when taking care of her home and planning huge family dinners and events to enjoy spending time with her family. While living in Greenwood, Mrs. Adams was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by a three daughters, Linda Adams Byers and her husband, Jon Byers, of Cumming, GA, Kathy Adams Dodson and her husband, Herbert Dodson of Troy, Teresa Adams Polattie and her husband, Dwight Polattie, of Callison; and three sons, Charles "Chuck " Adams of Clearwater, FL, Michael Adams and his wife, Kathy Adams, of Greenwood and Barry Adams and his wife, Mary Jane Adams, of Waterloo. One of seven children, she is also survived by a brother, Wayne Hilliard and his wife Jean Hilliard, of N. Augusta, two sisters, Peggy Allen of Saluda, and Ann Parker and her husband Donnie Parker, of Johnston; twelve grandchildren, Jonathan Byers, Rodney Adams, Wanda Dodson Gibert, Stacey Dodson, Michelle Adams, Brandon Adams, Brent Adams, Tony Adams, Tonya Adams Vermillion, Marie Adams Graham, Dwight Polattie Jr. and Amanda Polattie Sims; twenty great grandchildren, Austin Adams, Zachary Adams, Tyler Gibert, Desiree Dodson, Heather Matthews, Hunter Fain, Kristen Adams, Curtis Adams, Mike Mabrey, Dave Vermillion, Angel Lothridge, Grady Lothridge Ill, Ashley Polattie, Megan Polattie, Hunter Sims, Ethan Adams, Gabriel Vermillion, Chloe Byers, Zach Adams and Tyler Adams; two great-great granddaughters, Rianna Booker and Bridget Anderson; and longtime family friend Donald Hodges of Ware Shoals. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Addalyn Grace Polattie; a grandson, Charles "Chipper " Byers; brothers, James Hillard and Fred Hillard; and a sister Kathryn White. Pallbearers will be grandsons Jonathan Byers, Dwight Polattie Jr., Tony Adams, Tyler Gibert, Brandon Sims, and Brian Gibert. The family members are at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Connie Maxwell Childrens Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29648. '
