Obituary

Ann Lura (Annie) Hayden, 80, wife of Charles Weesner, died on Monday, May 23, 2011. Annie was the mother of two children, Bill Insko (wife, Sandra Rhodes Insko) of Independence, KY, and Mary Neal Thomas, who preceded her in death. She had a stepdaughter, Laura Weesner Staton (husband, Chris Staton) of Lexington, SC, and a stepson, Bart Weesner of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Marshall Thomas, Olivia Thomas and Cora Mantle, Andrew Insko, Joseph Insko and Krystle Cook; three great grandchildren, Lacey Mantle, Stephen Cook and Austin Cook; her stepmother, Edna Hayden of Paris; stepsisters, Betsy Whitt of Paris and Janie Smith of Mobile, AL and a stepbrother, Bill Daugherty of Connecticut. Born in Adairville, KY (Logan County), she was a daughter of the late Basil and Mary Hardin Hayden. She received a Bachelor�s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Kentucky, where voice and piano were her field of study. Later in life, she earned a Master�s Degree in Social Work and spent the majority of her career in various roles and positions with the Bluegrass Area Development District, serving seventeen counties surrounding Lexington, KY. In her retirement, she served as an ombudsman for the nursing home residents in Lexington, KY, and directed a program for the Mayor�s office in Lexington, KY, entitled Hire Older Workers. Having moved to Cross Hill, SC in 2000, she soon found herself involved with Hospice of Laurens County, doing home visits to clients. She loved everyone with the love that she felt from her Lord. Annie was an active member of The Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal, Greenwood, having served on the vestry, various Christian formation activities including mentoring the Education for Ministry program, St. Julian of Norwich contemplative prayer group, the choir, and was involved in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina�s Partnership in Missions program at Cange, Haiti.
