Obituary

Barbara Lee Cook Keeney, 83, of Ashley Place, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Flushing, NY, she was a daughter of the late William Robert Lee and Margorie Miller Cook. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College in West Virginia and was an accountant for First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head. She adored animals and volunteered at the Hilton Head Humane Society and at the Hilton Head Hospital. Her broad career included accounting, bookkeeping, and administrative responsibilities from landscaping to food and beverage with Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head.

Barbara worked for the USO, where she entertained our troops who were stationed in Germany during World War II. Following her tour with the USO, she was Secretary to Director of Broadcast Review, Radio Free Europe. She also was the Program Director for the United States Army Special Services in Germany where she was responsible for planning and directing recreational activities and educational tours for the Armed Forces personnel.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Miller.

Surviving is her son, Bill Keeney and his wife, Kendra of Greenwood, and two grandchildren, Julie Kate Keeney of Hilton Head, and William "Davis" Keeney of Greenwood.

Private services will be held in Greenwich, NY.
