Barbara Jean Lowe Mayo, 72, widow of Lee Mayo, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026 at her home.
Born on October 15, 1953 in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late Charles Robert Lowe and Betty Jo Crouch Lowe.
Barbara worked for Greenwood Mills for many years until her retirement. She found joy in beautiful flowers, spending time outdoors, fishing, and collecting rooster and hen figurines. She also was an avid South Carolina Gamecocks fans. Above all else, Barbara's heart belonged to her family. She loved her grandchildren greatly, and they were the true light of her life. She expressed her love through her cooking, ensuring no one ever left her home hungry. While she had many recipes in her collection, her famous asparagus casserole was the undisputed star of every family gathering-a dish that will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.
She is survived by her children, Phillip Carroll Vaughn, Jr. and Billie Jean Brown; grandchildren, Clayton Vaughn, Madelyn Brown, and Lillian Brown; great grandchildren, Everlynn and Brantley; and fur babies, Puggie, BJ, and Doodle Bug.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Vaughn, and her brother, Jerry Lowe.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday at Harley Funeral Home and Crematory.
