Barrett Nadell "Barry" Boggero, 66, of 147 Old Greenwood Highway, Abbeville, husband of Earline Smith Boggero, crossed the finish line of life on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in first place after a valiant fight with cancer.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Nadell and Emily Beauford Boggero. Barry was a 1964 graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Erskine College and the University of South Carolina. He was the owner of Boggero's Services. He had a passion for all things racing. He was a former racecar driver, where he drove at the Greenville Pickens Speedway and throughout the Southeast during the 1960's. Barry was a member and the current director of the Mathews Lions Club, a member of Clinton Lodge #3 and Greenwood Shrine Club. He was a lifelong member of Panola United Methodist Church. Barry's most cherished moment in life was the day he became a grandfather. While he loved being a father to his three girls, he adored being a grandfather. "Pappy" valued every minute spent with his grandchildren and was often heard around town bragging on Abby, Anna, Lilly, and "His Boy Grant".
Surviving are his wife of the home; three daughters, Laurin Boggero of Columbia, Tracy Boggero Smith and her husband, Nathan, of Charleston and Gena Boggero Partain and her husband, Ben, of Greenwood; and four grandchildren, Abigail Smith, Grant Smith, Anna Smith and Lilly Partain. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ronnie Joe Polatty, and nieces, Elizabeth Polatty Arnold (Jason) and Emily Polatty Garrett (Brian) and nephew, Will Thomas Polatty (Shelley). He was preceded in death by his sister, Cindy Boggero Polatty.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Barry's oncologist, Joanna Sadurski, MD, and her staff for the compassionate care and love given to Barry during his brave battle with cancer. The family would also like to thank Dr. Rebecca Martin for her care (and cookies) during his recent hospitalizations. Dr. Sadurski and Dr. Martin will forever have a place in the hearts of this family.
