Bernice Gatlin Griffin, 96, of 5354 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA, widow of James G. Griffin, Jr., passed away peacefully from natural causes in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, August 1, 2014. Born in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lloy Talmadge and Stella Johnson Gatlin. She graduated from Greenwood High School and Lander College. Mrs. Griffin was a lifelong school teacher, having taught in several locations in South Carolina including Barnwell, Greenville, and Georgetown. Her last teaching assignment from which she retired was Northside Junior High in Greenwood, SC. Surviving are two sons, James Gatlin Griffin and his wife Katherine of Tampa, FL and Dr. Phillip Talmadge Griffin of New Orleans, LA; a nephew, Gerald Dennis Neeley and his wife Cornelia of Greenwood and Myrtle Beach; two grandchildren, Ashley Griffin DesMarteau and her husband Noel of Pawley�s Island, SC and Phillip Talmadge Griffin, Jr. and his wife Stacey of New Orleans, LA; and four great grandchildren, Cooper, Griffin, and Wils DesMarteau, all of Pawley�s Island, SC, and Sofia Alexandra Griffin of New Orleans, LA.
