Obituary

Bernard "Bernie" Harvey Padgett, 94, of Myrtle Beach and formerly of Greenwood, husband of Carolyn Hazel Padgett, died Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Grand Strand Medical Center.

Born in Lumpkin, GA, he was a son of the late Elza Woodfin Padgett and Sallie Lou Lanier Padgett Peay. Bernie proudly served in the U.S. Army before retiring from the U.S. Air Force, where he contributed to the nation during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he turned his passion into a profession by becoming the owner and operator of Padgett's Property Management. In 1996, Bernie and Carolyn made the move from Greenwood to the beautiful shores of Myrtle Beach.

Bernie was a man of faith, deeply involved in his community. He was a dedicated member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church in Greenwood and later became a vital part of the OD Church of the Lost and Found in Myrtle Beach, serving both congregations in various meaningful ways.

Bernie is survived by his wife and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Jean P. Wood and his brother, E. C. Padgett.
