Bertha Inez Young Bouknight, 95, formerly of 208 Salak Road, widow of Sidney Omerle Bouknight, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at Petra Health and Rehab. Born in Troy, SC, she was the daughter of the late Edmond Cowan Young and Lilly Bowen Young. Bertha was a loving, kind, considerate, generous and patient wife, mother, grandmother and very gracious and elegant lady. Her whole family was �the apple of her eye� and was a friend to all and never uttered a harsh word about anyone. She always had a warm smile on her face and everyone who graced her door, was always warmly and genuinely welcomed. Bertha was a devoted Christian who exemplified the golden rule �do unto others as you would have them do unto you�. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was held the distinction of the eldest member. She served as church co-host for many years and was well known for her �homemade doughnuts�. Bertha was also a charter member and officer of Mine Chapter #179 O. E. S for many years and a former member of the Troy W. O. W. Camp. She was a homemaker and a very proficient seamstress. For many years she made the Greenwood High School cheerleaders, majorettes and band color guard uniforms as well as many outfits for her clients. Prior to a decline in her health, she was a very active member of her church and a member of the Martha Kinard Circle and J.O.Y. �Joyful Old Youth� group. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Eddie Lindley of McCormick, Teresa �Tess� Kitchen of Williamston, SC and Inez Adams of Fountain Inn; a son, Howard Bouknight of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Nathan Gragg officiating. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons and her son-in-law. The family will receive friends following the service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 501 Creswell Avenue East, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to a charity of one�s choice. The family is at the home, 208 Salak Road, Greenwood.
