Betty Jean Yates Barger, 77, of 227 Trestle Road, Greenwood, died December 22, 2016 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Bessie Williams Yates. Betty retired from Shepherd's Flock and worked for Apple Tree Children's Center. She was a member of Living Way Church since 1979 where she was a former trustee.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Barger; four brothers, Billy Yates, Jerry Yates, Charles Yates and Prince Yates ; and two sisters, Sylvia Garren and Barbara Sexton.

Surviving are five children; Billy Barger (Tracie) of Hodges, Deborah Lowery (Eric) of Greenwood, Tina Nichols (Shawn) of Mountville, Jon Barger (Jenny) of Hodges and Linda Jones (Jay) of Greenwood; a special nephew of the home, Johnny Garren; four sisters, Rachel Harrison, Nancy Harter of Greenwood, Lisa Jimenez of Raleigh, NC and Jackie Covington of Ninety Six; a brother, Leonard Yates of Greenwood; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 pm on Monday at Living Way Church with the Rev. Willis Martin officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Barger, Stephen Barger, Christopher Barger, Timmy White, Carl Garren and Kevin Powell.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12 to 1 pm.
