Betty Schumpert Burke, 79, of Greenwood, wife of Grady Burke, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Barnwell County (Dunbarton), she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Josie Bedenbaugh Schumpert. She retired as co-owner and secretary of Glasgow Printing Company Inc. She was a member of New Market Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU and the Willing Hands Sunday School Class. Surviving are her husband of the home for fifty nine years; a daughter, Joanie Ledford (Larry) of Arden, NC; three sons, Pierce Burke and Stoney Burke (Kathy), all of Greenwood and Jesse Burke of Columbia; a sister, Barbara Smith of Williston; two brothers, Marion Schumpert (Pat) of Aiken and George Ray Schumpert (Arnette) of Elko; 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Market Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Honorary escort will be members of the Willing Hands Sunday School Class of New Market. The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday. The family is at the home. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that flowers be omitted and memorials made to New Market Baptist Church, 906 Ninety Six Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646.
