Betty Smith Burns, 90, of Belmont, NC and formerly of Greenwood, SC, widow of Joe T. Burns, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Woodlawn Haven Assisted Living, Mt. Holly, NC while surrounded by her family. Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lula Mae Phillips Smith. She was employed by Greenwood Mills for 28 years and was of the Baptist faith. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Steve Honbaier of Mt. Holly, NC; her daughter-in-law, Emmie Parrish Burns, of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren, Shree Honbaier Wise (Eric), Stephen Honbaier (Jaime), Elizabeth Burns Gentry (Eric) and Joseph W. Burns (Lindsay); and great grandchildren, Marin Wise, Riley Honbaier, Drew Hinton, Emma Pearl Gentry and Ruby Gentry. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, James Wiley "Jimmy " Burns and all of her brothers, Maxie "Mack " Smith, Grover Smith, Roy Smith, Grady Smith, Pearly Smith, James Thomas Smith and William Lee Smith and her sisters, Beulah Ballard, Rachel Day and Ella Parker.
