Betty Ruth Lamar Evans, 86, of Greenwood, widow of Troy Odell Evans, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Rayle, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Henry Lamar and Minnie Mildred Brooks Strickland. Betty retired after working 30 years at Schlumberger Industries and was a member of Ninety Six First Baptist Church where she was in the Ebbie McCarthy Sunday School Class. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Betty was known for her old-fashioned charm, incredible skill as a seamstress and cross-stitcher. She was also an amazing cook who could create good ole southern food with ease. Her legacy of love, creativity, and delicious cooking will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Otto Strickland; and sister, Gayle McCellan.
Surviving are a daughter, Theresa Phan (Tri) of Greenwood; a son, Ricky Evans (Jill), of Easley; a brother, Tildon Strickland (Ann); grandchildren: Dianna Malone (Brandon), Johnathan Phan (Nicole), Daniel Phan, Dwight Evans (Bethany), Dewey Evans (Lindsey) and Della Evans; great grandchildren: Katelyn Rehrer, Haliegh Rehrer. Victoria Malone, Anna Evans, Eliza Evans, Rebekah Evans, Maximus Phan, Kaiden Phan and baby Evans due in August; and special niece Kim McCellan.
Graveside services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Garden of Memories in Belton with pastor DeWayne Evans officiating.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-6:30pm.
