Betty McCoy Powell, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.

Betty was born on November 14, 1936, in Anderson, SC, but soon moved to Ware Shoals as one of 8 siblings and the eldest daughter. She was a member of the Ware Shoals High School class of 1955.
She was married to her husband, Carroll Powell, in 1958 and moved to Asheville, NC, where Betty worked for many years in customer support at Taylor Instruments and then in computer operations at Steelcase. After their retirement, the couple moved to beautiful Lake Greenwood, which was a fun playground for their grandchildren to fish, swim, and ride on the boat.

After her husband of 62 years passed away in 2020, Betty spent her last years at Wesley Commons Retirement Community where she made many friends at Bingo, Movie Night, and exercise classes.
Betty was an administrative volunteer at Bethabara Baptist Church in Cross Hill and later attended First Baptist Church of Greenwood in the Carpenters Class.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Carol Motro (Harry) of Los Gatos, CA, and Lisa Fontana of Greenville, NC, grandchildren Lucas Motro of Sausalito, CA, Valerie Motro of San Francisco, CA, Eric Fontana (Shelley) and Julia Fontana Long (Carson), both of Greenville, NC, two sisters Yvonne Harrington (Martin) of Ninety Six and Myra Springs (Bob) of Seneca and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2pm on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Wesley Commons Asbury Hall with the Rev. Kelvin Hinson and Rev. David Jennings officiating. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Monday from 10:30am-12 Noon.
