Obituary

William Travis "Bill" Cary, Jr., 78, of Ninety Six, husband of Judy Ferguson Cary, died Friday, November 8, 2024 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn, AL, Bill was a son of the late William Travis Cary, Sr. and Hazel Moseley Cary. He was a 1974 graduate of Lander College, where he received a degree in Business with an emphasis on accounting. He retired in 2003 from Monsanto following a career of 35 years. Bill was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was especially proud of being a part of the 1st Air Calvary and received Vietnam Service and Campaign medals, National Defense Service medal, Good Conduct medal and was a sharpshooter.

Bill loved to shag and was a founding member of the Greenwood Shag Club. He and Judy enjoyed traveling to SOS events for many years. He enjoyed researching family genealogy, a spirited debate, and spending time with his lake buddies.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family, but had formed a special bond with his granddaughter, Savannah, following his retirement. He was her "art buddy" and loved being bossed around by her.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; his children, Brad Cary (Tonya) and Jennifer Garrison (Phillip); his grandchildren, who all knew him as "Pop Pop", William Travis Cary, III (Lindsey), Christian Cary, Katherine C. Strauss (Jeff), Taylor Garrison, Connor Bentley, Ethan Bentley and Savannah Garrison; a great grandson, William Bradley Cary, II and little "Nugget", who is expected in December; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Wingard and Margaret Skiles and his brother, David Cary.

A private graveside service with military rites will be held.
