Obituary

Thomas B. �Bill� Harter, 91, formerly of South Cambridge Street Ext., passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Richard Campbell VA Nursing Center in Anderson. Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late William Henry Harter and Sallie Ellenburg Harter. Mr. Harter was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and a U. S. Air Force veteran during WWII, with duty in England and Germany. He was a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church. Bill along with W. J. �Buddy� Harter owned and operated Harter�s Market on Pender Row in Ninety Six for many years. In addition to the grocery business he also operated a cattle farm and provided fresh produce to customers in the Greenwood County area. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Harter and Sallie Ellenburg Harter; six sisters, Sudie Harter Williamston, Louela Harter Vines, Bertha Harter Harrison, Ethel Harter Lowery, Annie Mae Harter Christian, Lois Harter Thompson; and two brothers, Jack Harter and Buddy Harter. Surviving are his brother, William Henry Harter, Jr. and his wife Doris Fowler Harter of Ninety Six; also many nephews and nieces of which he was especially proud of. Pallbearers will be Wade Harter, Milton Harter, Yurgen Harter, Rick Harter, Ronald Lowery, Donald Lowery and Gene Williams. Honorary escort will be L. E. Doolittle and Fred Harvely. The family is at the home of his brother, William Harter, Jr., 421 North Church Street, Ninety Six and the home of his nephew, Wade Harter, 3709 Hwy 702, Ninety Six. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Cambridge United Methodist Church, 201 Kitson Street, Ninety Six, SC 29666 or to Richard Campbell VA Nursing Center, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.
