Obituary

Billie Davis Harley, 87, of 137 Gatewood Drive, wife of L. Ruple Harley, Sr., died Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Orangeburg, she was a daughter of the late Fred Stubbs and Willie Hartzog Davis. In 1947, she and Ruple moved to Greenwood and founded Harley Funeral Home, which became a successful business serving the Greenwood community with the help of her support. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she owned The Knit Shop, where she taught knitting lessons and sold yarns and other knitting supplies. During their childhoods, Billie was actively involved in Ruple and Henry's lives as a Den Leader with BSA and with their church youth programs. She was a former member of the Greenwood Woman's Club and used to love playing bridge. She formerly bowled with the PIN UPS Bowling League and was a member of the DAR. Billie and Ruple loved dancing and were former members of the Cotillion Dance Club, the 9 O'Clock Dance Club and also enjoyed shagging while visiting their home in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

Surviving is her loving husband of 68 years and son, L. Ruple Harley, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Ninety Six. She was lovingly referred to as "Grandma" by her three grandchildren, L. Ruple Harley, III, and his wife, Carol, of Ninety Six, Allison Harley Cobb and her husband, Michael, of Alpharetta, GA and Aaron Counts and his wife, Amanda, of Hermitage, TN; and her six great grandchildren, Davis Renee Harley, Ben Harley, Kerri Jones, Hampton Cobb, Davis Cobb and AliGrace Cobb. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Clifton Harley, II; her identical twin sister, Betty D. Antley and two brothers, Fred S. Davis, Jr. and John H. Davis, Sr.

The family is at the home.
