Obituary

Judge Billy A. Tunstall, Jr., 58, of 325 Mill Cabin Road, Ninety Six, husband of Dee'L Lee Tunstall, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at Hospice House, Greenwood.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Billy A. "Bill" Tunstall, Sr. and Doris Calvert Tunstall. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

Billy is survived by his wife of the home; his parents of Greenwood; children, Bess Victoria Tunstall Hoy and her husband, Daniel Jason Hoy, of Simpsonville, Billy A. "Tee" Tunstall, III of Charleston, Lexi Sweezy and Dee'K Sweezy, both of the home; sisters, Lori Anne Hagood and her husband, Andy Hagood, of Greenwood and Hope Askew and her husband, Mark Askew, of Simpsonville; brother, John Thomas "Tommy" Tunstall of Greenwood; nieces and nephews, Callie, Marler, Lillie and Gibson Askew and Spence Hagood.

Billy was a loving father, son, husband, brother and friend. His passions included his job and the opportunity to help people on a daily basis, spending time with his family, enjoying the lake and Gamecock football. He attended public schools in Greenwood and received his bachelor's degree in 1977 from Lander College. While at Lander, he received Most Outstanding Student Award in Economics in 1976 and 1977, as well as receiving the Golden Key Award in 1977. He received his juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1980. While in law school, Billy received the American Jurisprudence Award for Contracts and also a member of the Order of Wig and Robe. Billy returned to Greenwood and opened his own law firm in 1980 and later became a partner in the Law Firm of Wise and Tunstall. During private practice, he served as a member of the House of Delegates for the SC Bar from 1991-1997, as well as the Resolution of Free Disputes Board for the Eight Circuit. He also served on the SC Human Affairs Commission as a Board Member from 1985-1988. Billy has served as the Family Court Judge for the Eighth Circuit, Seat 3, since July 1997. During his tenure on the Family Court Bench, he served as a Regional Vice President of the Family Court Judges Association. He has been a member of the SC Bar Association, Greenwood County Bar and the SC Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past member and officer of the Sertoma Club and the Jaycees.
