Robert "Bob" H. Corley, 78, of Greenwood, husband of Diane Carroll Corley, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, surrounded by family.
Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late John R. Corley and Ruby Harmon Corley. Bob was a 1963 graduate of Greenwood High School, attended Clemson University and was a loyal Tiger fan. Bob was a U S Army National Guard veteran having served during the Vietnam era and was the owner of Robert Corley Builders. Prior to his construction company, Bob was employed at Abney Mills as a computer analyst and then went on to retire from Greenwood Housing Authority after 20+ years. He served as a former Greenwood County Council Chairman and a past President of the Lakelands Homebuilders Association.
He was a member of West Side Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school and enjoyed working with the children and youth as well as fulfilling many different positions in the church. Bob loved playing golf and was a member of The Fort Club in Ninety Six. He enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, vegetable gardening, baking cakes and sharing his garden with the community. Edisto Beach has always held a special place in his heart, he has been going there every year since he was a very young child. Above all, Bob loved his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 57 years of the home are his children: Robby Corley (Wendy Bruce) of Greenwood and Ginny Velez (Mike) of Greenwood; grandchildren, Harmon Corley Deery (Sam), Will Corley, Amber Velez Fuller (Hamilton), Logan Bruce, Dylan Bruce and Gussie Velez; great-grandchildren, Lucas Fuller and Chandler Deery; a sister-in-law, Sharron Hall; his golf family the "Hart Dogfight" Group; and beloved Sunday school teacher, Dr. Ralph D'Amore.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Richter and Rev. Hal Lane officiating. Burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Honorary escort will be Grover Christian, Russell Lawrence, Dr. Ralph D'Amore, Donnie Coker, Joe Ponder and the "Hart Dogfight" group at The Fort Club.
The family will receive friends Friday evening at Harley Funeral Home from 5:00pm -7:00 pm. At all other times the family will be at the family home.
