James Thomas �Bud� Rushton, Jr., 70, of 123 Bent Road, husband of Jan Cooley Rushton, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Hospice House. Born in Saluda, he was a son of the late James Thomas Rushton, Sr. and Mable Cockrell Rushton. Bud was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and was employed by Greenwood Mills for 28 years as supervisor of Shipping and Receiving at the Central Compound Warehouse until it was closed in 1988. He retired from the Lander University Physical Plant in 2006 as supervisor of housing. Bud was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and boater. He served as president of the Lake Greenwood Power Boat Club and won the High Point Championship Drag Boat Race in his class in 1985, racing in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. He grew produce, which he sold at the Greenwood Farmer�s Market for twenty years and was awarded Emerald City Rotary Club�s Vegetable Grower of the Year in 2013. Surviving is his wife; his son, Bobo Rushton (Suzanne) of Ninety Six; his daughter, Tracy Mardre (Clay) of Greenville; a sister, Louise White of Greenwood; grandchildren, Brigette Rushton of Greenwood, Skyler, Greyham and Tanner Rushton, all of Ninety Six, McClain, Claiborne and Smith Mardre, all of Greenville; a great granddaughter, Adalyn Rushton of Greenwood and his dogs, Rambo and Luna. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Crawford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
