James A. "Buddy" Hitt, Jr., 93, of 207 Piedmont Avenue, widower of Joyce Scott Hitt, died Sunday, September 25, 2016 at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late James Austin and Sarah Elizabeth Gordon Hitt. He was retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant and was a US Army veteran of World War II. Buddy was a member of Trinity Baptist Tabernacle, where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his daughters, Vickie Holcombe and Lisa Luu (Hai); sisters, Inez Power, Jeanette Tolbert and Mildred Hitt; brothers, Robert Hitt (Cynthia) and Carlton Lamar Hitt, all of Greenwood; grandchildren, Beth Matthews (Todd) of Greenwood, Anthony Luu (Tatum Cowan) of Charleston, Andrew Luu of Florida and Kamie Nix (Lewis) of Spartanburg; great grandchildren, KayLee Matthews (Hunter Hastings) of Anderson, Alex Matthews and Caleb Matthews, both of Greenwood, Henry Luu of Charleston and Oliver Nix of Spartanburg.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Richard "Ricky" Hitt; brothers, Marion, William and Thomas Hitt; and a sister, Emma Phelane.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Trinity Baptist Tabernacle with the Rev. Tony Pettit and Pastor Randy Ouzts officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hai Luu, Anthony Luu, Andrew Luu, Alex Matthews, Lewis Nix, David Miles, Robert Blizzard and Johnny Rodgers.
Honorary escort will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class of Trinity Baptist Tabernacle.
The body will be placed in the church on Friday, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
