It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claude "Buddy" Lewis Maus, a cherished husband, father, and friend, who left us on January 28, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on August 1, 1943, in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late Alex and Ola Somers Maus and was preceded in death also by two brothers James Maus and Bobby Maus.
Buddy proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he developed a deep sense of duty and service that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Buddy graduated from Rockingham Community College with his associate's degree, later going on the receive his bachelors degree in 1971, from Elon University. He was a representative for the Boy Scouts Foundation where he instilled in young people the values of perseverance and respect for nature; a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. Buddy was a true "Boy Scout". He transitioned to the O'Dell Corporation working as a Shipper, and in the later years a Shipping Supervisor where he was respected not only for his work ethic but also for his kindness to colleagues.
For 46 wonderful years, Buddy was devoted to his beloved wife, Mary "Simon" Maus and his two stepchildren, Amber "Missy" Hancock and Dick Goold. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership, inspiring all who knew them. Buddy's warmth extended beyond his family, as he was actively involved in his community. He was a member of the American Legion Post #20 in Greenwood and attended Main Street Methodist Church. He loved to help others and was a volunteer for the Northwest Volunteer Fire Department as well.
An ardent animal lover and nature enthusiast, Buddy found joy in the great outdoors. Whether he was hiking, canoeing, or simply enjoying the serenity of nature. He fostered a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world around him. Buddy spent his life with an unwavering love for family, nature, and community.
Claude "Buddy" Lewis Maus will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, love, and commitment to serving others. As we celebrate his life, let us remember him as a man who cherished every moment and whose legacy will endure in the stories we share.
