Carl Leonard "Flute " Turner, 80, of 96 Cothran Street, Ninety Six, died Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Hospice House. Born in Ninety Six, he was a son of the late Carl Steadman and Ruby Willingham Turner. He was a graduate of Ninety Six High School, where he was a member of the 1953 Championship Wildcat football team, was a catcher for the baseball team and attended Clemson University on a baseball scholarship. He also played Legion Baseball. Carl was a US Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam War, and was retired from the SC Department of Corrections. He was a member of the American Legion Post 103 (Ninety Six), Eureka Lodge #47 A.F.M. and was a member of Cambridge United Methodist Church. Surviving is his son, Richard "Ricky " Turner (Debbie) and his daughter, Yvonne Turner, all of Ninety Six; six grandchildren, Cheryl Hepler, Richard E. "Ricky " Turner, Jima Slate and Robert Steadman, all of Ninety Six, Kathleen Bauer of Bluffton and Candice Smith of Greenwood; great grandchildren, Christopher Turner, Brandon Hepler, Anthony Bauer, Austin Bauer, Hailey Turner, Sarah Turner, Hunter Griffith, Skylar Smith, Sydney Smith and Kaylee Slate. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Battle. Honorary escort will be members of Eureka Lodge #47 A.F.M. along with Aaron Bishop, Charles Turner and Billy Willingham.
