Elizabeth Carolyn H. Padgett, age 87, widow of Bernard H. Padgett, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026. She was born on May 26, 1938, in Greenwood. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Arno Hazel and the late Sarah M. Timms.
Carolyn was a longtime resident of Greenwood, South Carolina, until 1996, when she and her husband moved to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where they spent many happy years together.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Carolyn was a faithful member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church in Greenwood, SC, and The OD Church of the Lost and Found in North Myrtle Beach. She loved the Lord and lived her life guided by faith, kindness and grace.
Carolyn enjoyed cooking and reading and was well known for her quick wit and gentle sense of humor, often bringing laughter to those around her. Though she had no children of her own, she dearly loved her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, holding each close to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, who passed away shortly before on January 1, 2026; and her brother Vernon Scurry Hazel.
She is survived by her sister, Judy H. Rodes of North Myrtle Beach, SC and sister-in-law, Shirley B. Hazel of Dunn, North Carolina; her nieces and nephews; and her great-nieces and nephews whom she loved so dearly.
A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel. An additional celebration of life will take place at 12:00 PM on January 25, 2026, at The OD Church of the Lost and Found in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church or The OD Church of the Lost and Found.
