Obituary

Carolyn Ann Shook Schuetter, 58, of Waterloo, beloved wife of Larry Schuetter and mother of Bryan John O'Dwyer and Elizabeth Ann O'Dwyer, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.

Born on June 23, 1967 in Oak Lawn, IL, she was a daughter of the late Kathryn and Tom Shine and Jack and Gloria Shook.

Her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) was a testament to her loving nature. Carolyn dedicated herself to caring for children and babies, embodying a spirit of nurturing that was evident in all aspects of her life, and to scores of children.

Carolyn, affectionally known as "YaYa" by her family, cherished moments spent with her family and took immense joy in family gatherings. The laughter, stories, and shared experiences around the table were treasures she held dear to her heart. Living on the lake, whether in Missouri or Greenwood, was a life dream that brought her happiness and serenity. The beauty of nature, alongside her love for all things pink and her unwavering adoration for Winnie the Pooh, painted a picture of a woman who delighted in life's simple yet profound pleasures.

In her recent years, one of the greatest joys for "Miss Carolyn" was spending time at the YMCA, watching children play and flourish, a true reflection of her caring heart. Carolyn had a unique affection for animals, and all dogs were considered her pets, each one adding to the warmth of her home and heart.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Carolyn was a new member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Carolyn leaves behind her loving husband, Larry, who misses her dearly, and her wonderful children: Bryan John O'Dwyer, Elizabeth Ann O'Dwyer, Daniel Gerard Schuetter (Danica), and Laurie Rose Schuetter (Craig). She also took great pride and love in being a grandmother to Caden, Lilah, Archer, and Piper, who will carry her loving memory forward. Her siblings, Colleen Bender (Michael) and Shawn Shook, along with her nieces and nephews - Claire, Taylor, Madison, Tommy, Billy and Grayson - will remember her unwavering support and the warmth she brought into their lives.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn and Tom, Jack and Gloria; and her brother, who she loved dearly, Jackie Shook.

The girl with the biggest heart died on Valentine's Day.
