Cecil Oliver Bailey, 92, of Ashley House, husband of Myrtle Burke Bailey, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Columbus, GA, September 20, 1922, he was the son of the late George Oliver Bailey and Ruby Owens Bailey. A World War II Navy Veteran, he served on Guam as a radioman. He retired from Monsanto Corporation after 28 years of service. He worked in Pensacola, FL, Greenwood, SC, Barrington, RI, and Gaffney, SC in various management positions. During his first stay in Greenwood, he started and wrote the bylaws for Chemstrand Credit Union, now Neighbors Credit Union. In Barrington, he became the first plant manager in Monsanto Textiles to not have a college education. An avid sports fan, he loved the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of Rose Hill Lodge #484, Columbus, GA. Surviving are his wife of 73 years Myrtle Burke Bailey; two sons, Charles Bailey (Jean) of Lexington, SC, Gene Bailey (Nancy) of Richburg, SC; five grandchildren Burke Bailey (Melody), William (Bo) Bailey, Shannon Parker (Lamar), Lt. Michael Bailey (Crystal), and Stephen A. Bailey (Mandy); six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, George L. Cash.
