Charlene Smith Burden, 80, of Greer, beloved wife of James "Jimmy" Burden, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on April 9, 1943, in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late C. H. "Poss" Smith and Rachel Pauline Bryant Smith. She was a loving wife, who met her husband at the age of 6, wonderful mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family. Charlene loved flowers having grown up alongside her working mother at the former Ninety Six Florist. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sandra Smith Enos and Dorcus Smith Long.
Surviving in addition to her faithful and loving husband of the home are her children; Starla Duncan (Jesse), Darren Burden and Chuck Burden, all of Greer; grandchildren: Emilee Stuart (Raymond) of Greer, Savannah Burden (Andrew) of Duncan, Alex Duncan (Hanna) of Myrtle Beach and Olivia-Grace Duncan of Charleston; great granddaughters, Stella-Rae Charlene Stuart and Hazel-Grace Stuart; sisters, Ernestine Bagwell and Shirley Lowe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1-2pm.
Pallbearers will be Derek Bagwell, Bryant Bagwell, Steve Lowe, Blake Lowe, Tyler Goldman, Rusty Long, Marty McCall and Grayson McCall.
Honorary pallbearers will be Berm Bagwell, Brad Lowe, Joey Ball, Joel Greene, Carey Dacus, and David Levy.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers from AGAPE and SC House Calls: Nikki, April, Simon, Tina, Seth, Leslie and Aleksandra.
For her love of flowers, they are encouraged to be sent for the family.
