Charles H. "Spanky" Baer, 88, of Greenwood, husband of Bobbie Baer, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Charles Franklin Baer and Irene Wagner Baer Blackwell. After graduating high school, Spanky served his country in the United States Army. He went on to work for Moore Business Forms as a pressman. Before his retirement from Moore's, Spanky coached little league baseball, and also coached football at the YMCA. Some of his favorite past times were fishing, yard work, and pulling for the Carolina Gamecocks. He was well known for playing a mean game of horseshoes. Spanky was a generous man who loved making people laugh. He will be remembered for his flawless impersonation of Donald Duck and playing Santa for the Greenwood community for almost 40 years. Above all else, he adored his family and they adored him. He was "their heart". Spanky had a good life and will be missed by so many of his family and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Phillip Baer and Eddie Baer, and a sister Doris Mitchell.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of the home, are his daughters, Karen Lee Baer Williams (Vincent), Maxine Baer Ruley, and Debbie Lynn Baer Cooper (Tony); a stepdaughter, Ava Kelly; grandchildren, Aaron Cooper (Maggie), Joshua Scott (Leslie), Shanda Scott, CJ Angaleah Baer (Hanah), Jessica Newman, and Dakota Fallaw (Drake); thirteen great grandchildren, including Khloe Canfield of the home; a sister, Rosann Steward (Johnny); and a brother, Billy Baer (Cheryl).
Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Harley Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends before the service from 3:00 to 5:00 at the funeral home.
