Rev. Charles Dayton Brown, 91, of 142 Blake Street, husband of Jeanette Ginn Brown, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Oscar Dayton and Grace Coates Brown. He was a US Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in Korea and retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Durst Avenue Church of God. Rev. Brown wrote a column for The Index-Journal titled, The Voice of Peace and served as a pastor in the Greenwood nursing homes. He was a wonderful Christian husband and father and loved the Lord with all of his heart. Surviving is his wife of 68 years; a daughter, Linda Calvert (Wayne) and two sons, Michael D. Brown and Larry Brown, all of Greenwood; a sister, Ruth Sawyer of Hodges; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death two daughters, Shirley Floyd and Charlene Brown and a grandchild. The family is at the home.
