Obituary

Rev. Charles Dayton Brown, 91, of 142 Blake Street, husband of Jeanette Ginn Brown, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Oscar Dayton and Grace Coates Brown. He was a US Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in Korea and retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Durst Avenue Church of God. Rev. Brown wrote a column for The Index-Journal titled, The Voice of Peace and served as a pastor in the Greenwood nursing homes. He was a wonderful Christian husband and father and loved the Lord with all of his heart. Surviving is his wife of 68 years; a daughter, Linda Calvert (Wayne) and two sons, Michael D. Brown and Larry Brown, all of Greenwood; a sister, Ruth Sawyer of Hodges; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death two daughters, Shirley Floyd and Charlene Brown and a grandchild. The family is at the home. It is requested that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Durst Avenue Church of God, PO Box 397, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to the charity of your choice.
