Charles Marshall Camp, Sr., 76, of Ninety Six, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019.
He was born in Caldwell County, NC on January 25, 1943 to Betty Lee Greer and the late Marshall Camp. Charles attended Baton Elementary School in Baton, NC and Hudson Middle School and Hudson High School in Hudson, NC. He received his BA degree in Elementary Education from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC, where he played the trombone with the Kampus Kats. His Masters of Education Administration and Educational Specialist degree was earned from Appalachian State University.
Charles began his career teaching at Hudson Elementary School and Sawmills Elementary School in Sawmills, NC. He then served as principal of Rhodhiss Elementary School (Rhodhiss, NC), Gamewell Elementary School (Gamewell, NC), Horry County schools (Green Sea-Floyds Elementary School, Loris Elementary School and Myrtle Beach Elementary School) and retired from the Horry County School District Administrative Office.
Charles was a member of Hudson Lions Club, where he held several positions. He also served as a member of the Caldwell County Board of Health. He was a former member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Loris and was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Gail Barber Camp, of the home; his daughter, Allison Gail Camp Greene and her husband, Steve Greene, of Greensboro, NC; his son, Charles Marshall "Chuck" Camp, Jr. and his wife, Kathy Hoole Camp, of Ninety Six; his two granddaughters, Sarah Kathryn Camp and Emily Elizabeth Camp, who both held a special place in his heart; his mother, Betty Greer of Ohio; three brothers, Keith Greer (Diane) and Steve Greer (Nancy), both of Ohio, and the Rev. Gary L. Camp (Tammy) of Statesville, NC; two sisters, Lisa Greer Lapenta (Al) and Kim Greer, both of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Floyd Greer and his stepmother, Betty Camp.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Caldwell Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lenoir, NC, with the Rev. Holly Cobb Adams officiating.
