Marie Claire Chandenais Mangum, age 87, of 204 Lakeshore Drive, widow of Jack Mangum, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 3, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living.
Claire, affectionately known in her earlier years as Marie Claire, was born on Aug. 16, 1931 in Fall River, MA. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Eva Allie Chandenais. Claire was an extremely talented seamstress and had worked with R & K Originals clothing company in Fall River, MA before she and her husband bought and operated Island Park Laundry in Portsmouth, Rhode Island for a number of years. After relocating to South Carolina, she was employed by Kentucky Fried Chicken in Clinton and worked for the bowling alley in Clinton for a time as well. She continued her seamstress skills working from her home to serve others faithfully for many years.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Bea Walker of Greenwood; brothers, Roger Chandenais of Westport, MA and Raymond Chandenais of Gloucester, MA; grandchildren, Patrick Walker (Summer Davis) and Claire Hilliard (Kenny); great grandchildren, Charlie Elizabeth Walker, Sidney Jackson Walker, Elijah Hilliard, Nathaniel Hilliard and Khayna Hilliard; and special nieces, Dorene Hebda of Oakland, Maine, Darleen Dimor of Westport, MA, and Deborah Monteiro of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. She loved her son Jack and his wife Bea, and most especially her grandchildren, Patrick and Claire, and her great grandchildren tremendously.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased in death by sisters Jeanette Murphy, Doris Paul, and a brother, Robert Chandenais.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home from 4:00 until 5:00 on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019. A memorial service will be held there immediately afterwards.
