Obituary

George Clayton Devore, 85, of 414 Lanham Street, husband of Irene Cook Culbertson Devore, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Hospice House. Born in Greenwood County, he was a son of the late John William and Lottie Metts Devore. He retired as a supervisor from South Atlantic Construction and was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II in the 286 Combat Engineers in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of Emerald Baptist Church and the Men�s Senior Class. Surviving is his wife of the home; two sons, Vernon Devore of Greenwood and Jody Devore and his wife, Johnette, of Spartanburg; two stepsons, G. Randy Culbertson and his wife, Brenda, and George �Bubba� Culbertson and his wife, Margie, all of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Hollis of Belton; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Scasbrick and Margaret McDaniel and a brother, Hoyt Devore.
