Obituary

Clifton “Cliff” H. Akers, a beloved husband, of Juanita Baker Akers left this world to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Born and raised in Bluefield, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Fred and Hallie Hypes Akers. Cliff served his country in the US Army as a military police officer. He enjoyed a successful career beginning at Worthington Tile Company, after which he went on to establish his own venture, Akers Tile Company. His contributions to the field were a testament to his unwavering work ethic and exemplary skills. Beyond his professional achievements, Cliff was a member of Hodges Masonic Lodge and was a proud member of the Hejaz Shriners. He was a member of Fountain of Life Worship Center-Church of God of Prophecy. Known affectionately as "Poppie" to his grandchildren, he took immense pleasure in spending time with his family, happily reminiscing and sharing stories, especially around the ballgames, wrestling matches, and thrilling stock car races that he cherished. Cliff lived a life marked by dedication to family and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Jerry Stone, James Stone; a sister, Delores Beaston; brothers, Clyde Akers, Sr., Cecil Akers, and Freddy Akers; grandchildren, Bill Averson and Ray Alverson; and a nephew William Akers.

Cliff is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Juanita; two daughters, Jan Alverson Townsend and Terri Varnum (Jimmy); grandchildren, Robbie Stone (Alethea) and Jason Sellars (Whitni); great grandchildren, Karlie Stone (Carson), Chansley Sellars, Grason Stone, Coltin Sellars and Waylon Sellars.
