Clinton Bissell Butler was born October 7, 1935, in South Carolina, the son of Hardee and Margaret Butler. He grew up with his older sister Mary in Tuxedo, North Carolina, and graduated from Western Carolina University. Clint went on to serve in the US Army, a time in his life where he forged friendships and traveled through Europe. Clint loved Italy, especially Venice and Verona, and these youthful adventures would become the source of countless stories told over the years. Clint had a flair for storytelling, getting a twinkle in his eye as he began a tale. He could tell the same story multiple times and each time it would make you laugh like you had never heard it before. The life experience gained in these years in the army would serve Clint well as he began his 38-year career as a talented salesman with the NCR Corporation, eventually moving into management, rising to the role of Area Vice President, and retiring as Product Manager.
Clint married Joan Aline Clare on June 3, 1962, his beautiful wife of nearly 61 years, after meeting on a blind date. They were blessed with four children during their wonderful marriage, and many more grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clint's marriage and life were shaped by his faith in Jesus Christ. He was an active member and Sunday school teacher at Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church, and later, Walnut Grove United Methodist Church. His walk with the Lord strengthened his family and friendships and his influence will forever remain in the hearts and lives of all who knew him.
Clint passed away from this life on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia at the age of 87, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was a light to all who knew him. His devotion to God and his family will never be forgotten. Clint enriched the lives of everyone he met with his kind heart, warm soul, generosity of spirit, and unmatched sense of humor. His beautiful life will forever be celebrated as one of God's glories by his beloved wife, Jo; his loving children, Clint Jr., Clare, Robert, and Meg; and his cherished grandchildren, Ashley, Clint III, Sophia, Grayson, Olivia, and Hampton.
