Daniel Stephen Hazlett, 87, of Greenwood widower of Norma Jean Somsel Hazlett, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born in Ohio, he was a son of the late Patrick and Stephanie Hazlett. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he pursued his passion for dentistry, earning a Doctorate from Georgetown. Carrying his expertise with pride, Daniel established his own dental practice in Dayton, OH, where he dedicated himself to providing exceptional care to his patients for many years. Outside of his profession, he was an ardent reader and avid golfer who could often be found teeing off on his favorite fairways. When he wasn't perfecting his swing, he embraced his green thumb, taking pleasure in gardening and landscaping. College football season, especially when Notre Dame was playing, held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in rooting for his favorite team. Daniel also spent his free time volunteering at the Greenwood Soup Kitchen for multiple years.
Surviving are his children, Mark D. Hazlett (Lisa) of Dayton, OH, Valerie A. Hazlett of Fountain Inn, SC and Brian P. Hazlett, of Dayton, OH; brothers, Douglas Branson (Betsy) of PA, Ron Hazlett (Barbara) of CA and Roger Branson of CT; grandchildren, Alex H. Blackwell of Sterling, VA and Charles W. Hazlett of Dayton, OH; and several extended friends and family.
Graveside services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
