David Ruskin King, 73, of Greenwood, husband of Corlis Jackson King, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late William Paul King, Jr. and Ida Faye Garmon. David dedicated 35 years to his career as a truck driver, where he found great joy in driving his 18-wheeler and hauling freight across the country. After his retirement, he continued to serve his community by driving a school bus for Greenwood District 50 for seven years, sharing his warmth and kindness with the children he transported. As a hard worker and devoted family provider, David was known for his love of animals, particularly his two cherished fur babies, the late Miracle Joy and Daphne, who brought him endless joy. He enjoyed watching and playing golf, and he cherished the time spent RV'ing full-time for two years and going on cruises with his family. David was affectionately known as "Granddaddy," a title he embraced with pride and love. His family meant the world to him, and he enjoyed every moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Paul King and a brother, Michael Todd King.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his daughters, Stephanie Dawn King and Sharon King Austin; daughter-in-law, Gia Lalu King; step siblings, Angela Ramirez, Maxine Trotter and Bill Trotter; grandchildren, Alexandra King, Michael Hallbach and Erik Thompson; close friends, Butch Wooldridge, John Canfield and John Kyle; a niece, Galena (Rob); a nephew, Carl (Rita); along with extended family and friends.
