Obituary
David Eugene Payton, 57, of Greenwood, husband of Patricia Hobbs Payton, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late William A. Payton and Frances Gail Turner Payton. David was a dedicated landscaper that found immense pride in the work he did, transforming landscapes and creating spaces for others to enjoy. He had a love of music and was a former drummer in several bands such as the Heartbeat Band and Cuffy Town Creek Band. David loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Nikki Brown (Tree), April Macrae (Ryan), Brittany Payton (DJ), Emily Payton, Luke Payton and Logan Payton; sisters, Katie Stevens (Richard), Anita Bryant, and Elba Nobles, brother, Frankie Baer (Shannon); seven grandchildren; and half-brother, Lucky Wertz.
The family will hold a private graveside at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
