Donald Edward Bracken, 87, of Chappells and formerly of Summerville, husband of Gayl Scherb Bracken, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025.
Born in Franklin, PA, he was the son of the late Edward Jefferson Bracken and Virginia Hile Bracken. Don served his country honorably for 20 years in the United States Navy, where he excelled in the submarine service as a Chief Quartermaster. Following his distinguished military career, he transitioned to a fulfilling role with Fort Sumter Tours as a boat captain on the Spirit of Charleston. He also showcased his artistic talents as a graphic artist aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point, where he left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of working alongside him. He was a member of Christ Community Lutheran Church in North Charleston.
Don is survived by his wife; his children, Mark Edward Bracken of Summerville, Beth Lafave of Stuart, FL and Jennifer B. Dingler (Bruce) of Chappells; a sister, Kathy Hile Bracken of Thompson, CT; grandchildren, Amy (Carson), Amanda (James), Ryan and Rachel; and great grandchildren, Addyson, Sullivan, Fletcher, James Jr. "L J" and Elizabeth.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 21, 2025 at Christ Community Lutheran Church, 8315 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC.
